To anyone, if anyone reads this, hello. My name is Jeremy and I am a huge Ohio state Buckeyes Football fan. I am starting this blog because Ohio State Football is the one thing I have always been super passionate about and I want to connect with other Buckeye fans. I do not live in Ohio though, nor did I go to the school. Where I’m from, the only Buckeye fans I know are my family and that is because of me being such a huge fan. Most people do not like Ohio State at all so it is very hard to find other fans. It also makes it hard to show my passion because people hate it! This is why we say Ohio Against The World. Anyways, I wanted to share about how I became a fan. My goal for this blog is to talk about current Ohio State topics, as well as talk about memories and favorite moments of being a Buckeyes fan. I will even touch on the hard times. I hope you enjoy, O-H!
Growing up in the South Suburbs of Chicago in the early 2000’s, there really weren’t any College teams to root for. Sure there is Northwestern, Illinois and Northern Illinois within the state. But unless you lived next to those campuses, they were not popular at all and you never saw their games on T.V. Which didn’t make College Football all that popular where I lived, at least for an 8 year old. Okay besides Notre Dame, but I cant stand that School. So, I really had no idea about CFB until one day.
I still remember the game and the day. January 2nd, 2004 The Buckeyes were playing in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl vs. Kansas State. This is the First College Football game that I can ever remember watching. I didn’t even know Ohio State was 1 year removed from winning a National Championship. The only reason I was watching this particular game, was because my Nana and Papa were at the game. They had just bought a vacation home in Glendale, Arizona and were starting a yearly tradition of going to the Fiesta Bowl. This was the first one they went to.
I remember my Dad sitting down to watch the game and rooting for Ohio State to win. Why? I don’t know but of course I was gonna root for the team he was. I even specifically remember grabbing a bag of Tostitos chips to get in line with the theme. I wish Tostitos was still the sponsor today, the aura of the Fiesta Bowl hasn’t been the same since.
I mainly fell in love with The Buckeyes uniforms and colors. They complemented each other so well and this was back when they still had the grey sleeves. An iconic alternate uniform for todays teams. Their helmets too. Man those helmets. They are the best helmets in all of College Football and the NFL. When a players helmets are filled with Buckeye leaves, you know they have done so much for the team and the program that year.
I don’t remember much of the actual game besides The Buckeyes going on to win. When my Grandparents came back from vacation, they gifted me a shirt from the game with both teams helmets on it. I loved that shirt as it was my first piece of Buckeyes apparel I ever had. I wore it so much that it didn’t even last a full year until I had to retire it. This day really started a lifelong passion for the Buckeyes.
There is just something different about being a Buckeye fan. If you’re not one, then you don’t understand the passion we have for the team. There have been so many up’s and down’s I have watched them go through during my 21 years as a fan. I wouldn’t trade any of them for anything. Even the disappointments they have gone through, they have been so worth the success that has come with them. I am proud to be a Buckeye fan. Go Bucks and O-H!
